“Of course ‘wellness’ is dependent on being symptom free, hormonally balanced and feeling good about yourself. So often, the mental challenges of menopause can blindside women and they can lose their confidence. Wellness to me is the whole package, physical and emotional.”

Our lovely founder, Jill was a little reticent when we asked her to do this photoshoot, here is what she said when it was published in Lavish Mode in June.

“Five years ago, in the midst of menopausal symptoms I would have run a mile if someone had asked me to do a photo shoot like this! Now I’ve got my mojo back and I feel unstoppable! Life is for living!”

Q. Can you tell us how you started your journey as a menopause advocate?

A. The menopause took me completely by surprise in my late 40’s. It brought physical and emotional changes that I wasn’t prepared for. The signs were there – lack of energy, ‘can’t cope’ syndrome and mood swings that began to impact my working life and relationships. I talked to many doctors and gynaecologists but to no avail. It wasn’t until I started researching restorative medicine that I began to find answers; namely how to get my energy, personality, health and life back.

As part of my restorative medicine research, I started a personalised programme of bioidentical hormones. Balancing my hormones, together with lifestyle changes, transformed my energy levels, mood, sex drive and life in general. I became fascinated with restorative medicine; attending antiageing and endocrinology conferences, speaking to experts and putting all my experience and knowledge into my book – The Menopause Cure: Hormonal Health.

Q. Why did you choose the name Menopause Woman for your website?

A. Unfortunately, many women recoil at the dreaded ‘M’ word. In our youth obsessed culture, menopause is a taboo word; a turn off, old and unsexy. The fact is however, we can’t avoid it and I didn’t want to use a euphemism like ‘Vibrant Woman’! My approach is upfront, I tackle the menopause, its symptoms and negative connotations head on.

We can stop the menopause from stifling our careers, ruining our health and sending us to the divorce courts – but only if we know what’s involved, what’s happening to our body, and only if we talk about it!

So, we’re not running away from this inevitable phase of our lives. Instead, Menopause Woman is sending a loud and clear message – be prepared, inspired and ready to relish the start of the second half of your life.

Menopause Woman is not about avoiding the inevitable. With the help of good quality menopause products and restorative medicine we are offering women a different path. Women no longer need to put up with being told “It’s only the menopause, it’ll pass!” We can now do something about it, so let’s do it!

Q. Is the website for women in their 40s or 50s?

A. Good question – the portal is for women who are in their 40’s and above. The perimenopause, hormonal decline and associated symptoms actually start ten years before the menopause, when you are in your early 40s. I feel strongly that women in their 40’s shouldn’t shy away from understanding their bodies. You can still get pregnant when you are perimenopausal and women need to be informed about the hormonal changes in their body whether they are trying for a baby or not.

When it comes to the menopause, I wish I had been better prepared. I’ve now made it my life’s goal to inform and educate women before they enter the menopause, educating and preparing them for both the menopausal and postmenopausal phases.

Q. What has been your biggest professional achievement?

A. The publication of my book, The Menopause Cure, has been really wonderful, but I still feel that supporting women (and men) on their journey to optimum health via restorative medicine is and continues to be my goal.

Q. What’s next for Jill D. Davey?

A. Since writing the book, we’ve realised that many women want the benefits of restorative medicine without the ‘private’ price tag. Whilst I advocate a personalised programme if possible, I have sought out the best restorative health providers, all of whom provide products of the highest quality.

Certain products include hormones at the safest and most efficacious levels, which can help alleviate many physical and cognitive symptoms. So, I am really excited about the next phase of our website, which will include an online shop, stocked with the very best menopause products I’ve sourced across the globe from such experts in the field.

Q. What are three foods you can’t live without?

A. Well, hydration always comes first. We’d all wither away without water, but it needs to be filtered water because fluoride, found in some tap waters, is highly carcinogenic, as is chlorine. Always drink filtered water. In terms of nutrition, my favourite nutrient rich foods would be avocado (naked or with lemon and salt), fresh green vegetables and langoustines.

Q. What does wellness mean to you?

A. Having great energy and loads of get up and go. My team call me ‘unstoppable’. Of course ‘wellness’ is dependent on being symptom free, hormonally balanced and feeling good about yourself. So often, the mental challenges of menopause can blindside women and they can lose their confidence. Wellness to me is the whole package, physical and emotional.
